Creating Airbnb Trips docu-style films

Airbnb partnered with the Make-A-Wish foundation to grant wishes for a full year. To help with the press announcement, we created a docu-style film following Wish Kid and cancer survivor (her name was also Claire) during an unforgettable week of Airbnb Trips in Paris. We went with an immersive creative direction that focused on the small, sensory moments that made this trip so special and helped tell Claire’s journey. The final cut made for an emotional and impactful announcement on the big screen during Airbnb’s Festival of Hosting (7,000+ attendees).

When Airbnb Trips proved successful, multi-day Airbnb Experiences were born. As a part of our second docu-style film, we partnered with the Nelson Mandela foundation. We documented another immersive experience, this time hosted by Jack Swart, Mandela’s former prison guard. Swart takes Airbnb guests on a tour of Mandela’s prison and recounts how building a connection with one the most famous prisoners transformed the way he viewed the world.
